Dropping In on the Mighty Ghost Box
Man… Ghost Box. Love this shit. Regular readers know all about Ghost Box, but for the uninitiated, Ghost Box is a UK-based label responsible for ‘hauntology’ (also known sometimes as ‘library music’). Their small and incestuous roster of artists form the majority of their music around vintage synths and samples from the BBC Radiophonic Workshop of the mid-20th century, a sound engineering and composing body that created a vast array of atomic age-evocative scores and sci-fi sound effects for television shows. That whole chillwave thing that dudes are springing chub for? Ghost Box’s been on that tip forever, and they do it better. Plus, they’ve got artist Julian House on board to help create one of the most distinct label identities in existence today.

The label was relatively inactive for a bit, but now they’re back with a solid new release and an upcoming singles series! First, Advisory Circle just dropped an expanded version of Mind How You Go (art from the original version is what you see above) on vinyl. The rerelease features new jams and a couple of remixes by Belbury Poly and Seeland. This is gospel, and dare I say, some of the most accessible material from both Advisory Circle and Ghost Box. Hear a clip of the pristine sounding title track below. Read more, hear more, and grip you copy at the label’s Greed Bag portal.
Secondly, starting July 2nd, Ghost Box launches a new 7″ and download series called Study Series. The first one is a collaboration between Belbury Poly and Moon Wiring Club. Stoked on that. Head over the Ghost Box for more facts. Trade in your Memory Tapes joint for some fucking magic and get on this now.
