The last thing I saw him say was that politicians are in “show business”, which of course is the same business Billy is in, and he said this knowingly – he wasn’t being dismissive, he was just saying the role of a politician is to put on a show. Re: Ticketmaster, Congress is trying to bully a company with which Billy has a business relationship. Politics is war by other means, i.e., by artful ‘persuasion’ instead of by swords. Hate that game all you want, but it’s not going away and it isn’t reasonable to ask Corgan or anyone to unilaterally disarm.

Your characterization of Billy’s post-Siamese Dream music as being all drop-D metal is ignorant. Billy “somehow forgot all the many facets that he has proven himself capable of tackling”?! No, what happened is that, just now, you omitted Adore, the entire Zwan output, his ChicagoSongs period, TheFutureEmbrace, and most everything he’s done with the reformed band other than Zeitgeist. In quantity (and quality, I’m sure you’d think) the non-metal output has actually *dominated*. So this complaint boils down to: “the last two Smashing Pumpkins albums were heavier than I’d like”, which is not a sensible basis for over-the-top vitriol.

Re: Sasha Grey, I imagine your ‘values’ and mine are not too dissimilar, save perhaps for my predilection against pre-judging people and situations when I can afford to do so — and that’s pretty often, particularly online, because let’s face it: no one has a gun to my face demanded that I blog (in fact, Hipsters United doesn’t even have advertising, the fact that our readership is much larger than yours notwithstanding). I can’t say that I’ve seen her movies (damn those values!), but I watched an interview with her and I have to say she’s about as far from dead-to-the-world as I could possibly imagine a porn star being…seemed pretty sharp/intimidating/mature. Maybe Billy sees those positive qualities in her.

I appreciate the nice words, though! Read the article, and there is one correction that I should point out. I’m not just dissatisfied with Corgan’s antics (though they make for great punchlines), I’m also dissatisfied with everything post-Mellon Collie, especially Zeitgeist. That’s a major point – producing music far inferior to what they did 15 years ago showcases some sort of weird dementia that also finds its way on the Twitter.
