Dang dude, J Fills, a.k.a. Idiot Glee, is blowing the hell up, poised to be like the next My Morning Jacket or Hair Police or Oldham or Exile or Henry Earl or Slint. He’s all up on Prefix and MTV and Said The Gramophone and we’ll see many more as the trickle-down effect takes place. So watch out, ya’llz! I have a copy of his Sharpied-up demo CD-R that I will sell on eBay in five years for $600.
With all that said, though, he totally deserves it. His band Bedtime was solid. These songs are majorly solid. The Idiot Glee debut EP or LP will probably rule pretty hard. Also, since Idiot Glee comes right before Incredible String Band in my iTunes, I just noticed a stark similarity between the two (particularly “A Very Cellular Song” for some reason), suggesting that Friley has a more pronounced folk slant in his sample-based guttural electronics psych pop than his contemporaries, which I totally dig on and something that no one has mentioned yet. So, I will. There. Again, his FaceSpace is here. Be bros with him, especially if you’ve got a SXSW party going on. He’s tryin’ to play.
