Post-Industrial Paisley

lumerians Post Industrial Paisley
Named after a lost mythological civilization, it’s no surprise that Lumerians dig deep into mysticism, shamanism, and Meddle. However, don’t expect any hippy dippy horseshit here. No sir/ma’am, their debut, Transmalinnia, bolsters a foreboding and angular approach to flower power, apropos to their gritty port town of Oakland.  Unlike many of the band’s contemporaries that borrow heavily from the Nuggets paisley arsenal, Lumerians hardly rely on studio effects. This is obviously a record laid to tape in an unfettered live setting, probably in only a few takes. It’s increasingly rare to find an artist that captures their precise sound – no compressors, no crushing reverb, no Spectoresque walls of sound… just quality psych rock with a slight jazz, hauntology, and garage pop bent. Perhaps this is a backlash toward chillwave? Hope so, because the urgency harnessed on Transmalinnia is palpable, to say the least. Dig on these crunchy, punchy, foggy vibes and grip their full length from Knitting Factory Records. Oh yeah, and if you’re one of the lucky fucking bastards going to this year’s Austin Psych Fest, don’t tell me about because I’ll get jealous… but check them out there. Dig?
