CAVE – “Adam Roberts”
I can’t think of a motorway less like the Autobahn than the Dan Ryan in CAVE‘s base camp of Chicago. The road is plagued by curves, weird interchanges, and the notion that if the speed limit was removed, we’d lose a lot of our brethren. This is not a point the guys are overly concerned with, as they’re steadfast in keeping the motorik gospel holy by any means necesary. Relentlessly summoning the shades of krautrock and precise psychedelic alchemy, CAVE’s forthcoming effort, Neverendless, sees the Zodiak Free Arts incarnate mesh the classic apache beat with fluid and punchy low end, technicolor electronic voyages, tasteful repetition, hooky instrumental melodies, and vibrant, almost sunny sonic textures. In that regard, their name is a bit of a misnomer. Don’t get it twisted though, CAVE still packs a viscerally sinister punch, and makes this storied aesthetic all their own. Fans of Neu, Oneida, and Wooden Shjips would do well to scope Neverendless, out September 20 via Drag City. “Adam Roberts” provides a great teaser below.
