Rockshows to Know for 6.9.11

rockshows Rockshows to Know for 6.9.11

Lots of interesting shows coming up the next couple of weeks, so let’s round ‘em up, starting with the most time-sensetive, both this weekend at the Zanzabar.

Oberhofer, who’s doing a one-off from his tour with the Neon Indian man, plays a low dough show along with local Brainbheats, who offered a dome busting performance opening for Holy Fuck last fall. Our own Aphex Twin. Nasvhille retro grit hero Pujol rolls through tomorrow night. He’s on Third Man now, so enjoy him while he’s still doing the small club thing. Perennial Decibel Tolls favorite K Tranza opens.

Other Zanzabar dates that we’re stoked on include All Tiny Creatures with Shedding next Wednesday (the 15th), Radical Dads on the 29th, Brontosaurus on the 30th, Gang Gang Dance with Nguzunguzu and Total Freedom July 13th, The Soft Moon with the mighty return of The Photographic on July 23rd, and Pictureplane July 28th. The show I’m most pumped on I’m not allowed to talk about because Windish got all hot and bothered when I did. Just follow my Twitter, and you’ll get the scoop a.s.a.p. Check Zanzabar’s website for specs.

ear X-tacy has been goin’ hard with free all ages in-store shows featuring national touring acts and local dudes, pretty damn near every night. Keep up with all of ‘em on their Facebook page – including the comedy and music showcase Soup Sandwich, hosted by our boy Adam Greenwood (get a sample of the sonofabitch) on the 17th. And fer Chrissakes, buy somethin’ while you’re there. Freedom ain’t free.

Cropped Out is bringin’ in JEFF the Brotherhood on the 19th at the Magbar in Old Louisville. They’re also doing a huge secret show that I’m not supposed to talk about. But ask around, and you’ll get privy. Keep up with the guys at thier Tumblr.

Uncle Slayton’s, the new venue that replaced Skull Alley in the Original Highlands, brings in White Denim on Father’s Day (the 19th) and Viva Voce on the autumn equinox (Sept. 21st).

Newport’s Southgate House welcomes Earth on the 19th (lots of gigs that night) and Harvey Milk July 15th. Scary. Specs on the venue site.

Cosmic Charlie’s in Lexington has been killing it lately. They just confirmed Kurt Vile’s old stomping ground, The War on Drugs, for Aug. 31st… and holy shit, Deerhunter, on Aug. 25th. That’s a 200 or so capacity room, and probably the most intimate show you’ll be able to catch ‘em at. Five bucks says Casino vs. Japan gets involved in some way as well. Not to be missed. In the same market, Buster’s welcomes Black Lips on Aug 2nd.

Twin Shadow was recently added to the Halfway to Forecastle lineup along with other heavy hitters. Full lineup here.

Louisville Experimental Festival kicks off next week over four nights at various venues around town. Some great local acts like Sapat and Softcheque pair up with some very under the radar folks. Looks to be a great time. Just avoid Ron Whitehead, becuase that shit is miserable. Check the Facebook event.

Have fun at Bonnaroo this weekend, you guys. Me, I’ll be camped out in from the the AC with a nice craft beer, not listening to Widespread Panic. Should rule.
