I wasn’t able to listen this weekend. I regret it. I’m sure there are many more like me. So I ask ye… who out there recorded Lilys, Lightning Bolt, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Alexander Tucker, Om, Bardo “Motherfuckin” Pond, Wooden Shjips, My Bloody Valentine, and/or Growing a la WFMU’s stream this weekend? WFMU did not archive the jams, so the psychedelic community will handsomely reward anyone who steps up with hugs, kisses, and possibly some weeeeed. I found a few, but not many… MP3s that is, not weed. Continue reading ‘Anyone Record the ATP Stream?’
A fun thought experiment I like to engage in with friends, neighbors, and peers concerns what particular public figures are doing right now, at this moment. Last week on FaCeBoOk, I played “What is Sarah Palin Doing Right Now?” with everyone. Many of my cohorts left decidedly excellent responses – everything from cleaning muskets, to shooting polar bears, to grilling mooseburgers, to Wikipedia-ing “VP,” to activities and extracurriculars that I dare not reprint here. Despite my penchant for making cusses every now and again, I try to keep this blog PG-13.
Time to play again! What do you, dear reader, think that Alan McGee, founder of Creation Records, is doing right now? My educated inference: he’s probably still waxin’ on why and how much he, with the fury of colliding galaxies, loathes Kevin Shields. Dude hates Kevin Shields Continue reading ‘Creation Records, For the Win’
As promised earlier this week, here are two classic My Bloody Valentine shows conveniently ZIP archived. These were sent to me by a DT reader and fellow shoegaze ripper. For the sake of comparison, listen to these recordings, then play a track or two from the MBV v2.0 London bootlegs, found here. Virtually no difference, as a “reunion” tour should be (but usually isn’t).
This doesn’t need a long introduction, but as a master of circumlocution, I’m going to give it one. An impressive, soundboard-quality bootleg of one of this summer’s warm-up shows in London has surfaced in torrentland. And it proves everything we’ve been hoping for – My Bloody Valentine will utterly decimate live.
It’s one month and 20 days (according to my righteous little ticker on the left) until My Bloody Valentine inflicts structural damage to the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago. And if you’re going to the Chicago date and are worried about the Aragon’s notoriously shitty sound, fear not (probably). Rumor has it that Kevin Shields is bringing his own PA, cables, boards, and everything else he can preside over. I mean, he’s only a producer.
So yeah, for everyone having trouble sitting still until September’s end, this concert bootleg serves as a delicious appetizer. “I Only Said” and “Sueisfine” are majestically aerodynamic live. “Slow” features booty bass and tectonic rumbling. This reunion is epic. Continue reading ‘My Bloody Valentine Live Sneak Peek (in MP3)’
Recorded just two nights ago in Manchester, this is the first video I’ve seen of the reunion tour that features fairly decent sound quality – discernible notes and everything. I mean, that’s a very good thing in a way – knowing that MBV is so loud that most people cannot record them with simple civilian technology. But it really puts a damper on everyone outside the UK trying to get a sneak peak of the destruction to come. September 27th cannot come soon enough!
