The Asteroid Number Four, No Loko

asteroidno4 The Asteroid Number Four, No Loko

The great Philadelphia psych-gaze quartet The Asteroid #4 are back with their sixth album, Hail to the Clear Figurines, coming at us on February 8th, 2011.  Coming off the 2008 barn-burner These Flowers Of Ours… The Asteroid #4 bring back their modern blend of retro psychedelia, chocked full of fuzzed out guitars, spacey leads, and dreamy vocal melodies.  I’ve been excited for another release from this crew after how great their 2008 release was, and from the two tracks we got to sample here at The Decibel Tolls, it seems as though they aren’t going to disappoint.  Ignition Slated for Eight grooves along daintily, sounding as if it came from across the pond decades ago.  Scott Vitt tip-toes along with his vocal melody, pulling a few notes here and there from more Eastern-tinged melodies, as the dreamy reverbed guitars lay a bed for him to take us to outer-space.  Wild Opal Eyes takes a slightly different stance beginning with a dreamy melody slowly hoisting us in the air as acoustic guitar and sporadic drums prepare us for an aural assault via van Kriedt’s vocals.  It is a bit more folkier than the previous track, more focused around the vocals and melody, less on delayed guitars and fuzzy leads.

Hail to the Clear Figurines is set to release on February 8th, 2011, on the great Committee to Keep Music Evil record label.  For fans of psych, and especially fans of previous albums by these guys, you’ll want to snag this one as soon as it’s out.
