I just found out that nordic beasts The Legendary Pink Dots quietly released a new full-length very recently called Plutonium Blonde. And as you can expect, like contemporaries Lilys and Psychic TV, they’re still all over the place. Plutonium Blonde features it all: psychedelia, noise, and hell, even a few dance ditties.
Though they’ve yet to really release what could be considered their magnum opus, the Dots have never released a bad album. You can expect surprises and gems in every slice. I preferred the folk-slanted chanties on the Dots’ latest, and have included them for your consideration. The Holy Modal Rounders-esque demented and kaleidoscopic circus pop of “Faded Photograph” is classic Legendary Pink Dots, and a good insight as to where Animal Collective imagined Danse Manitee. They’ve still got some dates left on their fall North American tour, and you can find ‘em herrrre.
